What is
Float Therapy?

Float therapy involves lying effortlessly in a specially designed pod filled with 10 inches of water and over 1,000 pounds of Epsom salt (magnesium sulfate). This creates a solution so dense that your body naturally floats on the surface, eliminating the effects of gravity on your muscles and joints.

The water is heated to skin temperature (93.5ºF), and once you close the pod door, external stimuli, light, sound, touch, and gravity are removed, creating what neuroscientists call Reduced Environmental Stimulation Therapy (REST). This is a unique environment where your nervous system shifts from stress mode to deep restoration.

1000 Pounds of Salt

The amount of salt in a True REST Float pod. It emulates the effects of the Dead Sea and creates a sense of antigravity.

The Ultimate Reset Experience

Float therapy causes measurable changes in brain activity, stress hormones, and nervous system function. You enter into deep meditation states that normally require decades of practice. Research shows cortisol drops 25-30%, brain activity in the amygdala (fear center) quiets by 30-40%, and neural plasticity increases.

Why Float Therapy Works

The unique environment of a float pod creates several physiology effects that contribute to its powerful benefits.

Sensory Reduction

SENSORY REDUCTION

The environment meditates you, creating ideal conditions for neural plasticity.

Magnesium

MAGNESIUM ABSORPTION

Transdermal magnesium regulates hundreds of systems controlling muscle relaxation, inflammation, and nervous system function.

Gravity

GRAVITY ELIMINATION

Weightlessness allows complete muscular release and measurably reduces pain signal processing in the brain.

What is float therapy? Toggle FAQ
Float therapy is resting in a private pod of warm water saturated with Epsom salt, so your body floats without effort. With less light, sound and pressure around you, your body and mind can fully rest and your nervous system gets a chance to reset. Studies of flotation therapy have linked it to lower anxiety, less pain and better rest, which is why we treat it as a need, not just an indulgence.
Is float therapy safe? Toggle FAQ
Yes, float therapy is completely safe for most people. Our float pods are designed with hygiene, comfort, and safety in mind. The water is filtered and treated after every session, and the high salt concentration naturally prevents bacteria growth. As always, we recommend checking with your healthcare provider if you have specific medical conditions.
How are the float pods cleaned? Toggle FAQ
We pride ourselves on setting the industry standard for health guidelines. Our float solution is filtered and sanitized in between every appointment, with a 5x turnover of water. Depending on the municipal standards we add UV light, ozone, a 5 micron filter, and hospital grade hydrogen peroxide.
What if I'm claustrophobic? Toggle FAQ
Many people with claustrophobia find floating surprisingly comfortable. You’re in control of the environment at all times—you can float with the pod door open, lights on, or music playing. Our spacious pods and calming atmosphere are designed to help ease anxiety.
Will my skin get wrinkly like in a bathtub? Toggle FAQ
Not at all! Thanks to the high concentration of Epsom salt in the float pod, your skin won’t wrinkle like it does in fresh water. In fact, many people report their skin feeling softer and smoother after a float session.
How often should I float? Toggle FAQ
It depends on your goals. First-time floaters often benefit from 2–3 sessions close together to fully adjust and experience the effects. Many guests float weekly or bi-weekly for stress relief, recovery, and mental clarity. We offer flexible packages to suit every lifestyle.
What to expect on my first float Toggle FAQ
Just bring yourself. We provide towels, earplugs, shampoo, conditioner and body wash, and you float in your own private pod in your birthday suit, so no swimsuit is needed. If you wear contacts, bring a case and solution. You're in control the whole time: float with the door open, the lights on or music playing until it feels right. First-timers often get the most from 2 to 3 floats close together.
How much does a float cost? Toggle FAQ
A single float is $89 at every True REST location. First-time guests get a one-time intro rate of $45 to $65, depending on the location. Memberships start at $65 at most locations, and members add extra floats for $59. Prices vary slightly by location, so check your studio's page.
Is a float pod the same as a sensory deprivation tank? Toggle FAQ
Mostly the same idea under different names. "Sensory deprivation tank" is the older term. At True REST you decide how much stimulation you want: door open or closed, lights on or off, music or silence. We call it float therapy because the point is rest, not deprivation.
