Curious about float therapy but not sure what to expect from your first float? Our intro to float therapy will answer any questions you may have!
What is float therapy?
Float therapy is not a new fad. Invented in 1954 by John C. Lilly, an American physician and neuroscientist who studied the impact of float therapy on the human mind. Thanks to his work, float therapy and the many benefits it provides have a well-documented scientific history.
Known as Reduced External Stimulus Therapy, or REST, floating is the act of laying on your back in a float tank filled with 10-inches of water mixed with 1,200 pounds of high quality Epsom salts. The specialized solution results in maximum buoyancy which eliminates the gravitational pull on the musculoskeletal system.
Experiences at True REST Float Spa can be customized to each individual. There are options to open or close the pod’s door, turn lights on or off, listen to music, or use any of the customized sound therapy programs offered exclusively at True REST. Additionally, the water is heated perfectly to skin temperature. This helps create the sensation of not knowing where the physical body ends and the water begins.
Float therapy is all about clearing your mind and providing yourself the ability to reach a fully relaxed state, removed from any and all external distractions and noises. It has shown to reduce in stress levels and improve quality of sleep by inducing deep relaxation.
Why Epsom Salts?
Epsom Salt provide buoyancy, making the floating process very easy. On top of that, the salt contributes to healthier skin, hair and nails.
The high quality Epsom salts used at True REST Float Spa provide magnesium, which is critical to improving health and wellness. They also reduce swelling, soreness and pain from muscles and joints.
What can you expect for you first float?
Try to arrive with enough time to relax – let yourself breathe and unwind. Once you’re ready, you will be taken back to a private room for you to enjoy your float.
Before you enter the pod, we invite you to use your room’s private shower and rinse off to maintain a sterilized environment. We offer a foam pillow for extra neck support to use during your float. Some people experience tension in their upper back and neck at the beginning – a sign that those areas are often tense.
During the float, you have the option of listening to your own music, changing the colors of the lights or keeping it completely dark and silent. After a few minutes immersed, your body begins to feel at one with the water leading it into a deep meditative state.
When you finish your session and get out of the pod, you will instantly feel fully recharged and ready to take on what lies ahead. People have described feeling an intense relief from the stress and anxiety they had before getting in.
Before you leave, we encourage you to head to our Oasis room to grab a lovely cup of warm herbal tea, try out our oxygen bar and connect with yourself and your community.
